On Almaty’s vibrant Arbat Street, La Danzhu from China honored composer Xian Xinghai with a performance from the Yellow River Cantata, sharing the story of his friendship with Kazakh composer Bakhytzhan Baikadamov. Here, music connected cultures, with locals and visiting students playing traditional instruments like dombra, sybyzgy, kobyz, and guzheng, celebrating friendship and harmony.

The Apple Festival, held every September in this city known as the “City of Apples,” offered a lively feast of dance, music, and community. Participants explored cultural pavilions, including a Chinese pavilion with calligraphy, chess, and guzheng performances, finding joy and inspiration in shared traditions.

At Lake Kaindy, the “blue eye of the Tien Shan,” participants discovered a submerged forest of spruce trees frozen in time. Surrounded by serene waters and a crackling campfire, the lake inspired reflection and creativity. The journey ended in a nomadic home, savoring traditional Kazakh dishes like baursaks, kuurdak, and kumis, accompanied by stories and warm hospitality.
